System Produces Happy ResultsBy Sarah Coddington Heather Stringer has finally found the answer to a happy and organised family. The mother of two uses the I Can Do IT Planner that uses a series of cards to teacher her children to take responsibility for tasks and help things run smoothly in the house. "We are all on the same page now," says Mrs. Stringer. She say the the programme also teaches values and team that are important now and in adulthood. It is based on a reward system. Her son, Jayden, 5 is saving is reward points for a special dinner with his Mum at McDonalds. Mrs. Stringer says that they have tried other ways to encourage the children, like using star charts, but the motivation for the children wore off in a few weeks. Jayden is happier and can see what he has scheduled, and what he needs to do, she says.Mrs. Stringer says that it has helped her develop her parenting skills, as well. She was so enthusiastic for the product that she even became a part time sales consultant for I Can Do It. She says the programme reflects her values and it is fun. "It helped me to concentrate on the good stuff." "The beauty of the system is that it is so flexible", says the Beach Haven resident. Mrs. Stringer has helped adults with goal setting and has a background in nursing. "I had read parenting books, and this was a tool I could use," she says She believes from the moment children want to help with tasks is when they need to be given some responsibilities. The programme is designed from ages 2-16 and all of the tasks change as the children grow. It can be used in schools, any child care situation and even helps people who experience memory loss.
