What Experts Say

Lynn Berresford - Registered Child Psychologist

LynnBerresford“Each family has their own vision for their family and for their children and the problems arise when your children are different from you."

"No matter how much we love all our children, some of them are just kind of easier to guide through all the myriad of disasters and problems and crises and all those things that are part of being a parent and part of having the responsibility for bringing up our children. So, everybody comes into the world with their unique personal strengths and those things LESS well developed. So, with each of these individual differences, everybody again has their unique way of dealing with them, surviving , coping and we want our children to do more than survive.

We want every human being to wake up in the morning and want to do what they need to do and that is why I am so excited about the "I Can Do It!" program because that's what life is all about We have to somehow instill no matter the difficulties that our children bring into this world, their belief in themselves and their belief that they can do it.

So, if you have a child who is different from the norm , say they are very very dyslexic or very very gifted or very very ADHD, or very very impulsive or dreaming or angry or sad or whatever you just want to be sure they don't get caught up by that negativity and deciding they are dumb or bad.

So, this is what it is about, this I Can Do It!program is a wonderful way of connecting with your children so they can have that belief in themselves and that they can do it.

I am always, always trying to keep my eyes & my ears open for things that will be practically helpful for the many many families that I see.

So I've learnt from every single child and family that I’ve had the honour to be asked to see if there is something that I can identify or give to them that makes their journey through life easier and Alison [Kirby] said it so very well - each of these beings is unique , so please when you leave tonight , you may take that message away that there is now something that families can use I Can Do It and it will work for an amazing, incredible, wonderful range of children - in the way human beings connect with the world, because they are all special in their own way.”

Alison Kirby -Registered Educational Psychologist

AlisonKirby190"Help to families who find themselves wishing for 'happy family time' rather than chasing their tails with no time to spare and growling at the kids..."

"I recommend this planner [I Can Do It] as it incorporates many of the tried and trusted ideas developed over the years in psychology, it can be used by itself or as part of a family therapy plan with a Psychologist.

I like the planner [I Can Do It] because it allows families to develop skills for themselves and to move forward without the ongoing assistance of a therapist necessarily.

The Planner should be of help to families who find themselves wishing for “happy family time” rather than chasing their tails with no time to spare and growling at the kids.

It should be just as useful for families with special needs children as for families with special abilities.

I Can Do It helps children to develop the kinds of self management, time management and organizational skills in they need in their daily lives to become successful independent adults.”
